We are looking for an organised person to help our Not-for-profit as Board Secretary. Our small national charity supports families with babies born with the rare condition Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH).

 

Become a volunteer Director of the Board as our Secretary and make a real difference to the CDH community. Your skills in administration, governance, regulation, or compliance will be highly regarded!

 

2022 is an exciting time to join our team. We are working on a third research project funded by our organisation and collaborating with a leading medical institution to improve the lives of families affected by CDH. We have previously funded two other research projects which improved the treatment options and outcomes of babies born with CDH.

The role

 

The Secretary role is an important Director of the Board position which coordinates the administration requirements of our small charity.

 

Our Secretary position is an active role in our organisation. You will be coordinating the needs of a wonderful organisation that cares about CDH families and wants to improve their lives.

 

Previous experience as a Board member or volunteer is not essential, however a commitment to a 12-month posting is a requirement. Any of the following skills or background will also be highly regarded:

 

  • An experience with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia
  • Experience in management or administration
  • Governance, compliance, and regulatory experience
  • Not-for-profit experience

The tasks

 

The Secretary coordinates the administration, governance, compliance, and regulatory requirements of our organisation

 

You will have the support of a volunteer Board of Directors including the President who will oversee all Board functions and the Treasurer who manages accounts and finances.

 

You will work alongside the President and Treasurer to meet our annual requirements to maintain our status as a registered national charity with the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission and maintain our fundraising compliance in all states and territories.

 

The Secretary is also responsible for scheduling the monthly online Board meeting, preparing the agenda, collecting reports from Board members, taking minutes, distributing, and saving documents.

 

Training provided

 

Our current Secretary will work alongside you to provide a hand over and will be available for questions as you become comfortable with the role.

 

Location

 

Our community is based all over Australia, our services are mostly online, and our volunteers all work remotely. Our team meets online once a month via video chat, we regular stay in touch via WhatsApp, email, and phone calls. Due to the nature of our remote workspace, your availability for for regular and clear communication is essential.

Additional information:

 

Time commitment: Our volunteers work from home at times that suit their schedule.  Approx. 2 hours per week, plus attendance at the monthly online Board meeting.

 

Duration: 12 months

 

Start date: 1 November 2022

 

Successful applicants will need to complete the following before commencing the role: Reference check, National Police Check, CDH Australia membership, CDH Australia volunteer service agreement acceptance.
